How to Prepare a Room Before the Plasterer Arrives
A practical checklist for homeowners — covers, sockets, furniture, pets and access — so your plastering job runs faster and tidier.

A bit of prep the night before saves time on the day and keeps the dust where it belongs. Here's what we ask our Shrewsbury customers to do.
The day before
- Move furniture out of the room, or into the centre and cover with dust sheets.
- Take down curtains, blinds, pictures, mirrors and shelves.
- Lift carpets if you can — otherwise we'll sheet them, but bare floors are quicker.
- Decide on socket and switch positions. We can replaster around them, but if you're moving any, get the electrician in first.
On the day
- Clear access from the front door to the room — we'll be carrying boards, buckets and a mixer.
- Outside tap or kitchen sink access for water and cleaning tools.
- Keep pets and small children out of the work area — wet plaster, sharp trowels and trailing leads.
- Parking close to the property if possible.
After we leave
Keep the room ventilated but not freezing. Don't blast heat at the walls. Wait for the plaster to go a uniform pale cream before mist-coating — see our drying time guide for full timings.
